#JDXCanDo Virtual Fundraising

In spite of the challenges presented by COVID-19, JDXers continue to demonstrate entrepreneurship through virtual fundraising initiatives

Nicole Wayment – July 16th 2020

On 29th June JDXers participated in an innovative ‘Donate Your Commute’ fundraising campaign, that raised over £1,200 in a single day for the firm’s Charity of the Year, The Passage. When Coronavirus hit the UK, it was estimated that in just 12 weeks, charities across the UK would miss out on at least £4.3bn of income as a result of cancelled fundraising activities. Determined not to let fundraising efforts diminish, in lieu of a typically social event, the Charity Committee ran a highly successful campaign that encouraged employees to donate the cost of their usual daily commute.

Each year, JDX partners with a charity to which they dedicate their fundraising efforts. In 2019, JDXers selected The Passage from a shortlist of charities deemed to be most in line with JDX’s core values. The Passage, London’s largest voluntary sector resource centre for the homeless, has an ethos of “actions rather than words”. This ethos translates into creating opportunities for people who have fallen on hard times in order to transform their lives, and realise their potential.

In true JDX spirit, the Charity Committee refused to let COVID-19 come between them and their fundraising goals. Upon identifying the savings that employees across the firm were making by not commuting, the committee channelled their entrepreneurial spirit into designing an event that could capitalize on employee’s current working from home arrangement. The campaign kicked off with virtual coffee morning hosted alongside a representative from The Passage. The discussion highlighted the charity’s success in rapidly adapting their frontline response and reiterated the need for donations to support the service in such a challenging time. This powerful presentation, coupled with an illustration of the average savings made whilst working from home during lockdown, laid the foundations for the event’s success.

On hearing the impressive total that the campaign achieved, Emily Richmond from The Passage stated “We would like to thank JDX for their ongoing support, unrelenting enthusiasm and continued thoughtfulness for those in need”. Following the go-ahead announcement for the London to Brighton Bike Ride in September, the firm’s partnership with the charity looks set to thrive as JDX will be proud to continue fundraising on behalf of The Passage. The Charity Committee would like to extend a huge thank you once again to all those who participated in the campaign.
